
Falcons fall to St. Thomas, 11-2

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – St. Thomas scored five goals in the first period en route to an 11-2 win over Air Force in a non-conference college hockey game Friday, Oct. 17, at the Cadet Ice Arena.
St Thomas (2-2-0 overall) scored 1:20 into the game as Casy Laylin scored on a 3-on-2. After a penalty on the Falcons, the Tommies scored at 11:49 with a power-play goal from Alex Gaffney. St. Thomas then scored three goals in a span of 58 seconds on goals by Josh Giulani, Nick Williams and Jack Braccini. After the fourth goal, Falcon starter Carter Clafton was pulled from the goal as sophomore Toby Hopp entered the game for his first collegiate action.
The Tommies added four more goals in the second period as Alex Gaffney, Dylan Godbout, Giulani and Luc Laylin all scored for a 9-0 lead.
At the start of the third period, junior goalie Dominik Wasik entered the game for his first collegiate action. After a Tommie goal, Falcon sophomore Michael Kadlecik scored his first career goal, short-handed, from freshman Aidan Willis and sophomore Beau Janzig. Senior Chris Hedden scored his first goal of the season from Nick Sajevic and Sam Stitz at 16:13. Tommie Nathan Pilling closed out the scoring with a short-handed goal at 18:19.
St. Thomas outshot Air Force, 38-31 in the game. St. Thomas was 2-for-3 on the power play while Air Force was 0-for-2. Aaron Trotter mad 29 saves for the Tommies.
Air Force (0-2-1) and St. Thomas conclude the two-game series Saturday, Oct. 18, at 8:05 pm MT at Cadet Ice Arena.
