Junior Akokwe Clement led all players with 13 kills, while posting a career-high hitting percentage with a .571 average (13k-1e-21a). She was one of four Falcons to hit above .400 on the night, as classmates Taylor Parker and Raquel Rosas hit. 400 (9k-3e-15a) and .600 (6k-0e-10a), respectively, and senior Hillary Keltner paced all players with a .857 average with six kills on seven swings.
In addition, Keltner connected on 38 of the team's 45 digs, while Rosas led the team with four blocks (one solo, three assisted). Junior Rebecca Bates led the match with 13 digs, while classmate Rachael Bradley Powers added 11. Bates and senior Emma Dridge each recorded a service ace in the match.
"Akokwe was just amazing tonight," head coach Matt McShane said following the match. "She gets better every match. She's developing really good ball control, so now when we point out a place she can get kills ... she just puts the ball in that place. Hitting .411 as a team says a lot about Hillary ... and she hit .857. I'm really pleased with our progress ... our serve-and-pass was really good tonight. (Marist) has a couple of really good hitters and we out-blocked them and out-dug them."
The Falcons return to action tomorrow (Sept. 6) at noon, when they host Houston Baptist during the second day of action at the Air Force Invitational.
