Dec. 2, 2013
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Sophomore Maggie Sherrill was named the Air Force Athlete of the Week on Dec. 2, after helping the volleyball team close out the 2013 season with a pair of Mountain West victories. It is the second such weekly award for Sherrill, who also claimed the department's award at the end of October.
Sherrill accounted for 36 kills during the Falcons' three matches (at Utah State, vs. Fresno State, vs. San Jose State), while hitting a .239 average. She also added one assist, six digs, one solo block and two assisted stops to her stat line over the week. Highlighting her week, was a .500 performance in Air Force's sweep over San Jose State on Nov. 29, accounting for a match-best 17 kills (17k-2e-30a) to lead all players.
The Falcons finished the season with an 8-24 record, including a 5-15 mark in Mountain West action. The five conference wins are tied with the 1999 squad for the most since the program joined Division I.
