Falcons Drop Season Finale to No. 19 Utah, 3-0

    U.S.A.F Academy, Colo. - The Air Force women's volleyball team closed out the 2000 regular season Friday night with a loss to the University of Utah at the Academy's East Gym. The No. 19 Utes won the match, 15-6, 15-3, 15-8.

    Utah improved to 18-6 overall and 9-4 in the Mountain West Conference, while the Falcons fell to 6-20 overall and 0-14 in the Mountain West Conference.

    Seniors Ana-Maria Ortega and Jamie Rempel, playing their final matches at the Academy's East Gym, led the Falcons offensively with 14 and nine kills, respectively. Delavane Diaz led Air Force defensively with a game-high 11 kills while Rempel added three block assists.

    Lenka Urbanova had a game-high 15 kills for Utah, and committed only two errors for an impressive .433 hitting percentage. The Utes hit .323 for the match, compared to .047 for the Falcons. Kim Turner added 13 kills, and Brooke Barton gathered a team-high eight digs. Lucie Turkova had 42 assists and six kills for Utah.

    The Falcons will participate in the Mountain West Conference Tournament next week in Fort Collins, Colo. Air Force will enter the tournament as the No. 8 seed, and play the top seed on Thursday. The time of the game has not been announced.
