USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force volleyball sophomore Ayesha Hein was named to the Capital One Academic All-District First-Team (District 7), the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday, Nov. 8.
Hein, who holds a 3.99 GPA in astronautical engineering, is the Academy's seventh volleyball player to earn academic all-district honors from CoSIDA - and only the second to do so as a sophomore. She is also just the second to earn first-team status since 2003.
The native of Honolulu, Hawaii, has led the team in hitting during eight matches this season, including two matches with percentages of .600. Setting career-best marks in assists, solo blocks, assisted blocks and total blocks during the current campaign, Hein is ranked second on the team in assisted blocks and total blocks, while ranking third on the team in kills and solo blocks.
Hein is one of just two underclassmen on the district's seven-member first-team list - and the only student-athlete in her first year of eligibility for the academic honor. She is joined on the District 7 First-Team by junior Carolina Jarmoc (Kansas) and seniors Sabrina Burns (Stephen F. Austin), Sheina Fernandes (Oral Roberts), Megan Bober (Creighton), Dana Cranstron (Colorado State) and Gina Mancuso (Nebraska).
As a first-team all-district selection, Hein will advance to the national ballot. The Capital One Academic All-America team will be selected later this month.
