USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Sophomore Maggie Sherrill was named the Air Force Athlete of the Week after leading the volleyball team to a conference win over Nevada on Thursday, Oct. 24. During the Falcons' only contest of the week, Sherrill tallied a match-leading 13 kills and a career-best .545 hitting average.
Sherrill's hitting average paced the Falcons to their second-highest overall average (.341) in the last decade. Recording 13 kills on 22 swings and just one error, the sophomore from Littleton, Colo., also accounted for her first service ace of the season, while adding two digs and one assisted block.
Air Force, which earned its first conference sweep since 2003 with the 3-0 win over Nevada, returns to action this week, when they begin the second half of Mountain West play at San Diego State (Oct. 31) and UNLV (Nov. 2).
