Caroline Kurtz Named MWC Athlete of the Week
Oct. 25, 2010
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Air Force volleyball senior Caroline Kurtz was named the Mountain West Conference Co-Player of the Week, the league office announced this afternoon (Oct. 25) following her stellar performance against San Diego State last week. With her first career honor, Kurtz became just the sixth Air Force volleyball player to ever earn the conference's weekly honor.
Kurtz was instrumental in the Falcons' 3-1 victory over the Aztecs on Thursday, Oct. 21 - a win that snapped a 74-match losing streak against Mountain West Conference opponents that dated back to 2005. It was also the Falcons' first victory over SDSU since 1999 and just their second in the series.
The native of Albuquerque, N.M., paced the Falcons with a career-high 24 kills during their only match of the week. The 24 kills are the most by a MWC player in a conference match this season and the second-best single-match performance in overall contests. Kurtz also added 13 digs for her 20th career double-double. Hitting at a clip of .286, Kurtz posted a team-high hitting percentage, while leading six Falcons that posted averages higher than .250.
For the week, Kurtz averaged 6.00 kills, 3.25 digs and 6.00 points per set.
Kurtz shared the honor with Lisa Meeter of New Mexico. The pair will match up on Sunday, Oct. 31, when the Falcons host New Mexico at Falcon Court at East Gym. Prior to the nationally televised match, Air Force will host TCU at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29.
