Volleyball Falls to New Mexico, 3-0
Despite a valiant effort from three outside hitters, who combined for 43 kills, the Air Force volleyball team couldn't overcome New Mexico's size, losing 3-0 (12-15, 5-15, 13-15). The loss keeps the Falcons winless in the Mountain West. Senior Ana-Marie Ortega had a career-high 22 kills for the Falcons. Delavane Diaz added 12 kills and Jamie Rempel had nine kills, but the 32 errors cost the team a chance for victory. The Falcons finished the match with a .131 hitting percentage. The Falcons suffered a disappointing loss in the first game, losing 12-15 in a back-and-forth battle. The loss seemed to affect the Falcons mentally, and they lost the second game of the match 5-15. Air Force was then able to gain some momentum in the third game. They played with intensity throughout the final game, opening up an early 8-4 lead. The Lobos battled back, under the strength of outside hitter Micaela Conley. Conley, who finished the match with 19 kills and 14 digs, was especially tough in the final game of the match. She gave her team a 14-10 lead, but the Falcons wouldn't surrender. They fought off seven consecutive match points before succumbing 15-13. Diaz had her team leading ninth double-double (12k-12d), while Brittany Edmonds had double figures in digs (11) for the second consecutive game. Ortega's 22 kills was a three-game season high for the Falcons.
The Falcons (6-13, 0-8 MWC) are back in action Oct. 27, when they will host
San Diego State, where they look to break a nine-match losing streak. They
