From The Coach
Sept. 24, 2002
I'm so proud of our 2002 Fighting Falcons!
Just two short weeks ago, we were sitting in a Fresno locker room after our seventh straight defeat. 0-7...It was time to determine what this year's team was really made of--it was time for us as a family to ask each other some tough questions.
What emerged from that locker room was an Air Force team, humbled yes, but mature enough to learn from our mistakes and to change our own destiny, and that's exactly what we did. We redefined and clarified player and staff roles, and to the credit of your Falcons, each one came into practice with a new sense of purpose.
We've now seen statistical improvement in each position...especially in our offense and serving (we now lead the conference in service aces per game). But even more importantly we've seen dramatic strides in the more intangible team aspects that are so critical in succeeding in this sport...intensity and desire now characterize this team more than ever before and every member of this program is recommitted to each other and overall team success.
The result has been two great weeks, six victories, two straight tournament wins, two tournament MVP awards and six all-tournament selections, and, most importantly, a new sense of confidence going into this week's first conference match-up with New Mexico. Make no mistake...the Air Force Falcons are ready to battle in the Mountain West Conference!
I can't thank you enough for your continued support for Falcon Volleyball. Go Falcons! --Penny Lucas-White
