Falcons to Host Volleyball Invitational
Sept. 11, 2002
The Air Force volleyball team will host its annual tournament, the Air Force Invitational, on Sept. 13-14. Georgia State, UC Irvine, Northern Arizona, Furman and the Falcons will participate in the two-day event.
The Falcons are off to a slow start, opening the season with seven consecutive losses. They expect to snap that streak this weekend.
"I am confident in our ability to bounce back from a disappointing start to the season," head coach Penny Lucas-White said. "We are working hard and expect to be successful this weekend."
Several of the Falcons players are having great seasons. Tiffany Bishop leads the team in blocks and was named to the all-tournament team at the Fresno State Invitational. Delavane Diaz leads the team in both kills (4.5 p/g) and digs (4.0 p/g). She was on the all-tournament team at the Bobcat Classic, the team's first tournament of the year.
Only two of the five tournament teams have winning records. UC Irvine is 2-1 and Furman is 4-3. Georgia State is 4-5 overall, while the Lumberjacks are off to a 2-4 start.
With the current security measures in place at the Academy, media wishing to cover the event should make arrangements with the athletic media relations office. Press credentials can be obtained by calling (719) 333-9025.
