DENVER, Colo. - Sophomore Akokwe Clement was named to the Pioneer Classic's all-tournament team, the University of Denver announced at the conclusion of its Aug. 30-31 tournament. It is the first all-tournament selection for the Falcons' outside hitter.
During the three-match weekend, Clement accounted for 39 kills, 25 digs, three blocks, three assists and her first collegiate service ace. Clement, who accounted for a team-leading 13 kills in each match, posted the most kills among all players in the matches against Denver and Texas A&M Corpus Christi. The native of Long Beach, Calif., also recorded her first double-double of her career against the TAMUCC, as she added a career-high 10 digs to her 13 kills.
Joining Clement on the all-tournament team were UC Irvine's Marisa Bubica, Allison Lee and Aly Squires, Denver's Bailey Karst and Colleen King and Texas A&M Corpus Christi's Logan Bourque, with Squires earning the tournament's MVP award.
