USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Juniors Ayesha Hein and Hillary Keltner were selected as captains for the 2013 Air Force volleyball team, head coach Matt McShane recently announced. It is the first time since 2006 that juniors have held the captaincy outright.
Entering her final season of collegiate eligibility after playing one season at Hofstra before transferring to the Academy, Hein led the team with 70 total blocks during her sophomore year, while also earning Capital One Academic All-District first-team honors. Throughout her first two years with the Falcons, Hein has amassed 124 blocks, 406 kills, 24 service aces and a .248 hitting percentage.
Keltner, the recipient of last year's MVP award, became the seventh Division I player in Academy history to surpass the 1,000-assist mark in a career, when she broke that plateau against UNLV last season. To date, Keltner has tallied 1,551 assists, 347 digs, 148 kills and a .239 hitting percentage, while accounting for 13 career double-doubles (assists-digs).
The Falcons open the 2013 season next Friday (Aug. 30), when they travel to Denver for the Pioneer Classic.
