USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force volleyball team welcomed three additions to its roster for the upcoming season, head coach Matt McShane announced today (June 27) as the Academy's Class of 2017 arrived in Colorado for in-processing.
Joining the Falcons' roster for the upcoming season are outside hitter Savannah Banyai (Chandler, Ariz. | Hamilton HS), outside hitter Collette Foster (El Paso, Texas | Franklin HS) and setter Lauren Ossolinski (Colorado Springs, Colo. | Thomas B. Doherty HS | USAFA Prep School).
Banyai helped her Hamilton High School squad earn its first-ever national ranking, while earning a runner-up finish at the state tournament and a third-place finish at the Nike Tournament of Champions, while Foster, who will join her older sister Victoria on the roster, was an all-district and all-city selection for Franklin High School. Ossolinski, who spent the past academic year at the Academy's Prep School, was an all-state honoree at Doherty High School, while helping her team to a Metro League title.
Following today's in-processing, the Academy's Basic Cadet Training is divided into two phases. The first session takes place in the Cadet Area and focuses on military orientation, which includes basic military skills and responsibilities, improving physical conditioning and understanding teamwork through competitive sports. During the second phase, the Basics will march out to Jack's Valley, where they will focus on field training activities, while developing their mental and physical confidence training.
The volleyball team opens its season on Aug. 30-31, when it travels to Denver, Colo., for the Pioneer Classic. Air Force will face tournament host Denver on Friday, Aug. 30, before taking on UC Irvine and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday, Aug. 31.
