Three Falcons Earn MW Scholar-Athlete Distinction

    COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Three members of the 2012 Air Force volleyball team were received Mountain West Scholar-Athlete distinction, the league office recently announced. Senior Maiya Perich, sophomore Ayesha Hein and freshman Rebecca Bates were three of 57 Academy cadet-athletes to earn one of the conference's highest academic honors.

    With a 3.99 GPA (astronautical engineering) that paced all Academy selections, Hein claimed the MW Scholar-Athlete award for the second straight season, while Bates (3.65, undeclared) and Perich (3.55, foreign area studies) each picked up their first.

    With the addition of Bates and Perich, the volleyball team now has a total of 12 MW Scholar-Athletes.

    A conference-record 623 student-athletes were named Mountain West Scholar-Athletes for the 2012-13 academic year, including 57 from the Academy. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the members institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better and competing in varsity competition of an NCAA-sponsored sport.
