Air Force Welcomes 10 to Volleyball Team
June 23, 2011
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force volleyball team welcomed 10 members of the Class of the 2015 to the Academy during in-processing on Thursday, June 23. This talented group of freshmen, who represent Texas, Arizona, Hawaii, Illinois and New Mexico, will look to make an immediate impact on a young Falcon squad that features just one junior and six sophomores.
"I am thrilled with this class," McShane said during in-processing. "We have a lot of depth at every position. This new group, combined with our returning sophomores and one junior, will make us the youngest team in the Mountain West. It will also make us the hungriest. The first few weeks of practice will be a dog fight, as everyone works to establish themselves on the court."

Following today's in-processing, Basic Cadet Training is divided into two phases. The first session takes place in the Cadet Area and focuses on military orientation, including basic military skills and responsibilities, improving physical conditioning and understanding teamwork through competitive sports. During the second phase, the Basics will march out to Jack's Valley, where they will focus on field training activities, while developing their mental and physical confidence training.
"The staff has worked incredibly hard to find student-athletes that embody all that the Academy demands to be a successful cadet," McShane continued.
The volleyball team opens its season on Friday, Aug. 26, when it travels to Annapolis, Md., to take on Bowling Green, St. John's, Iona and service academy rival Navy at the annual Kristen Dickmann Invitational. Air Force opens its home slate on Aug. 30, when it hosts Northern Colorado at Cadet East Gym.
