USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Highlighted by two home tournaments and 17 matches within the friendly confines of Falcon Court at East Gym, the Air Force volleyball team announced its schedule for the 2014 season this afternoon. The Falcons' full 32-match season includes four tournaments and an 18-match Mountain West schedule.
Air Force opens the 2014 campaign hosting Cal, Rutgers, SIUE and Winthrop over the Aug. 29-31 weekend, before welcoming Houston Baptist, Marist and Weber State to the Academy on Sept. 5-6. The Falcons will then travel to a tournament at Saint Louis University (Sept. 12-13), host I-25 rival Denver on Sept. 15, and close out the non-conference slate against Abilene Christian, Texas Tech and Weber State at the Red Raiders' Lone Star Showdown on Sept. 19-20.
"I am thrilled to be home over Parent's Weekend," head coach Matt McShane said when discussing the non-conference schedule. "We've got two great home tournaments and another chance to continue our instate rivalry with Denver. The Mountain West is incredibly competitive and everyone has improved since last year, so I think this schedule will really help prepare us for conference play. (Our non-MW opponents) feature a great balance of styles, and that can only help us."
The newly-structured, 18-match Mountain West slate, which begins for the Falcons at Nevada on Sept. 25, will see Air Force with home-and-home series against Boise State, Colorado State, San Diego State, San Jose State, UNLV, Utah State and Wyoming, a home match against Fresno State (Nov. 19) and a road contest with New Mexico (Nov. 25).
The Falcons will host their first official scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 16.
