USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Nine home matches, including eight within the Mountain West Conference, highlight the 2009 Air Force volleyball schedule, which was released this afternoon by the Academy's athletic department. The Falcons will compete in three tournaments during the non-conference season, while renewing a rivalry with local foe Northern Colorado.
The squad will open the 2009 season on Aug. 28-29 in Philadelphia, Pa. Competing at the annual LaSalle Invitational, Air Force will face Cleveland State, host LaSalle, Fairleigh Dickinson and Canisius. The Falcons will then head north to Denver on Sept. 4-5, where they will face the host Pioneers, West Virginia, Southern Utah and Eastern Illinois. Air Force closes out the tournament slate on Sept. 11-12, when it travels to Conway, Ark. While there, the Falcons will face Louisiana Tech, host program Central Arkansas, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Louisiana Monroe.
The Falcons open Mountain West Conference action at Utah (Sept. 17) and BYU (Sept. 19). Force finally opens its home slate against UNLV at Clune Arena on Sept. 24. The homestand is short-lived, as the Falcons head back out on the road to Fort Worth, Texas (Oct. 1) and Albuquerque, N.M. (Oct. 3) to face TCU and New Mexico, respectively.
Air Force concludes the first half of the conference season with a pair of home matches against Wyoming (Oct. 8) and Colorado State (Oct. 10) and a road contest at San Diego State (Oct. 16). The Falcons will host local rival Northern Colorado on Oct 21 to finalize the non-conference slate.
The Falcons open the second round of Mountain West Conference action at UNLV on Oct. 24, before hosting New Mexico (Oct. 29) and TCU (Oct. 31). Air Force concludes the road portion of the season at Colorado State (Nov. 5) and Wyoming (Nov. 7), before hosting San Diego State (Nov. 13), BYU (Nov. 19) and Utah (Nov. 21) at the Academy to wrap up the 2009 campaign.
