The Air Force volleyball team headed away from Cadet East Gym to scrimmage against some local opponents for the first time this spring, on Saturday, April 10. First-year assistant coach Marc Swindle gave GoAirForceFalcons.com a quick recap of the weekend. Click here to see what the coaches had to say.

The coaches are extremely pleased with the outcome of this Saturday's scrimmage. While the team didn't win any matches, we played tough. The areas that we had worked on intensely the past month worked very well. We got better each game and our last match against Colorado State was our best performance of the day.

Kudos to Preslee and Bri for playing middle all weekend. They got several kills, many blocks, and for never having played or practiced in that position, they did a great job. Since we were short-handed, Julia played front row constantly and never got a break. She had many impressive stuff blocks and went hard all day.

Both Jess and Dani showed that they had been practicing their setting for the past month. Tempo and location were much improved and they showed the leadership skills needed for that position. Caroline and Grace were solid in every game. They passed almost every rotation and kept finding ways to squeeze their shots through, and around, some very tough blocks.

Kelly, Maiya, Victoria and Jackie all turned in great performances in the back row. We have worked very hard on serving and passing and it showed.

As a team, we out-served and out-passed every opponent. Our best performance came against 2009 Mountain West Conference champions, and rivals, Colorado State. At one point, we led 24-22 and had them on the ropes.

The team hates to lose. But, we are MUCH better. Practice resumes today.
