Air Force Served a 3-0 Loss by TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Air Force volleyball team dropped a straight-set decision to the TCU in Mountain West Conference action on Friday, Oct. 17, in Fort Worth, Texas. The Falcons, who surrendered 17 service aces to the host Frogs, fell in consecutive 25-6, 25-10, 25-15 sets.
Sophomore Caroline Kurtz led the Falcons with six kills, while classmate Nichole Stilwell and junior Michelle Harrington each added five. Stilwell paced the team with a .500 hitting percentage, after tallying five kills on 10 attempts. Sophomore Jessica Hellmann added 15 assists, while senior Kristina Stewart led the Falcons with six digs. Stewart also accounted for the Falcons' lone service ace, while Harrington added two blocks (one solo, one assisted).
Air Force claimed the first score of the match, as Harrington and senior Jasamine Pettie teamed up for an assisted block. Backed by Stewart's kill and ace, the Falcons doubled the Frogs at 4-2. A Stilwell kill pulled the Falcons' lead to 5-3, but TCU responded to take a 6-5 advantage. Kurtz tied the set at six, but TCU's Megan Munce served out the set, which included a conference record 11 aces, and handed the Falcons the 25-6 loss.
The Horned Frogs started the second set on a 14-3 run, with Kurtz, Harrington and sophomore Julia Hansen adding the Falcons' points. Stilwell and Kurtz rolled off three straight kills, but TCU took the second set by a 25-10 margin. The Falcons' found themselves on the wrong end of an 8-1 run to start the final set, but Air Force pulled within five on two TCU attacking errors and a kill by Stilwell. Harrington added the Falcons' next three points and Air Force cleared the 10-point plateau off of a kill from sophomore Emily Frick. Harrington added a block and another kill as the Falcons' fell 25-15.
The Falcons travel to Albuquerque tomorrow (Oct. 18) night to close out the first half of the Mountain West Conference season against the Lobos at 7 p.m., at Johnson Gym on New Mexico's campus.
