Air Force Drops Conference Opener to UNLV
Sept. 18, 2008
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Despite a strong performance from sophomore Nichole Stilwell, the Air Force volleyball team dropped its Mountain West Conference opener to UNLV on Thursday, Sept. 18, at the Academy's Clune Arena. Stilwell tied for a match-best 10 kills, but the Rebels swept the Falcons in straight 25-14, 25-21, 25-13 sets. Air Force falls to 4-8 on the year, while UNLV improves to 5-5. Stilwell connected on 10 of 21 attempts, while committing just three errors for a team-high .333 hitting percentage. It is her second-highest average of the season, as she hit .346 in the Air Force win over Kent State last weekend. Stillwell also collected one of the Falcons' four assisted blocks. Senior Jasamine Pettie accounted for six kills, while junior Michelle Harrington added five. Sophomore Jessica Hellmann accounted for 16 assists and led the squad with six digs. Harrington, Hellmann and junior Jocelyn Booker accounted for the other three assisted blocks. Sophomore Kelly Spencer and freshman Victoria Martinez each posted a service ace for the Falcons. The Falcons close out their season-opening 13-match homestand on Saturday, Sept. 20, when they host San Diego State (3-7, 0-0 MWC) at 7 p.m., in Clune Arena.
