Air Force Completes Sweep of NC Central

    USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Senior Kristina Stewart collected a match-best 11 kills, as the Air Force volleyball team swept North Carolina Central, 3-0, on Saturday (Sept. 13) night during the final match of the Air Force Invitational at the Academy. The Falcons posted 25-23, 27-25, 25-16 victories to claim their third victory in the past two days.

    Stewart collected another double-double as she also posted 11 digs. Stewart added an assist, a service ace and two assisted blocks to her scoreline.

    Michelle Harrington also eclipsed the 10-kill plateau, pacing all players with a remarkable .391 hitting percentage. The junior accumulated 10 kills on 23 attempts, while committing just a single error. She also collected a team-high five assisted blocks.

    The sophomore setting combo of Jessica Hellmann and Stephanie Stanford each tallied 17 assists, while freshman Victoria Martinez led the squad with 15 digs. Martinez and sophomore Kelly Spencer joined Stewart with a service ace.

    Air Force finished second in the Air Force Invitational, with a 3-1 record. Kent State and Florida Atlantic also accumulated 3-1 records, so the tiebreaker was determined by the ratio of sets won and lost. Kent State won the tournament with a .688 mark. Air Force (.647) and Florida Atlantic (.611) finished second and third, respectively.

    Although the tournament season has come to a close for the Falcons, their homestand has not. Air Force opens Mountain West Conference action this Thursday (Sept. 18), when it hosts UNLV at the Academy's Clune Arena at 7 p.m.
