Falcons Fall to Florida Atlantic in Five

    USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force volleyball team played its fourth consecutive five-set match, falling to Florida Atlantic, 3-2, on Friday (Sept. 12) night at the Academy's Clune Arena. After dropping the first set by a 25-9 mark, Air Force responded by taking two of the next three (25-20, 22-25, 25-15), but ultimately fell 15-12.

    For the second straight match, senior Kristina Stewart led the Falcons with 19 kills. She also paced the squad with a .216 hitting percentage (19 kills-8 errors-51 attempts) and 17 digs. Stewart's kills-digs total marked her second double-double of the day.

    Junior Katie Batchelder, making her first appearance of the season in the starting rotation, collecting 15 kills and 11 digs for her first double-double of the season.

    Defensively, Stewart, Batchelder, freshman Victoria Martinez and sophomore Kelly Spencer all surpassed the 10-dig plateau. Behind Stewart's 17 digs, Martinez collected 14 digs for the second-best total on the team. Batchelder and Spencer each posted 11 digs. Junior Michelle Harrington tallied three assisted blocks, while Batchelder and sophomores Jessica Hellmann and Nichole Stilwell each added a pair of assisted stops.

    In addition, Hellmann collected a season-best 47 assists, while Harrington tallied the team's lone service ace.

    The Falcons continue action at the Air Force Invitational tomorrow (Sept. 13) when they host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 1 p.m., and North Carolina Central at 7 p.m.
