Air Force Drops Five-Set Heartbreaker to UC-Davis

    USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force volleyball team dropped a heartbreaking 3-2 decision to UC-Davis on Saturday, Sept. 6, during the second day of competition at the Air Force Classic Volleyball Tournament at the Academy's Clune Arena. Senior Jasamine Pettie and junior Michelle Harrington led the Falcons during their first five-set match of the season.

    Air Force jumped out to the early 2-0 lead, winning the first two sets by margins of 25-21 and 25-23. The Aggies responded with a pair of wins (25-17, 25-12) following the 10-minute break to tie the match at two. UC-Davis posted a 15-8 victory in the final set to complete the comeback.

    Pettie and Harrington each accounted for 11 kills for the Falcons, while sophomore Nichole Stilwell nearly reached a double-digit total with nine. Pettie paced the Falcons with a .250 hitting percentage, committing just four errors on her 28 attempts.

    Stilwell also stepped up defensively for the Falcons, posting a team-best three assisted blocks. Senior Kristina Stewart led the team with 11 digs, while freshman Victoria Martinez added nine. The Falcons received 35 helpers from sophomore setter Stephanie Stanford, who earned her first start of the season for the Falcons. Stanford also accounted for the Falcons' lone service ace.

    Air Force returns to action tonight (Sept. 6) with the final match of their home tournament. The Falcons will host North Carolina State at approximately 8:30 p.m. (MST).
