Falcons Fall 3-1 to Montana State

    USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Despite three players posting double-digit totals in kills, the Air Force volleyball team dropped a 4-1 decision to Montana State on Friday, Sept. 5, during the Air Force Classic Volleyball Tournament at Clune Arena. Falling 25-22 and 25-23 in the first two sets, the Falcons rallied to take a 26-24 win in the third set. The Bobcats responded with a 25-21 set to take the final victory.

    Senior Jasamine Pettie led all players with 12 kills, while sophomore Nichole Stilwell and junior Michelle Harrington added 11 and 10 kills, apiece. Harrington, who connected on 10 of 30 kills, while committing just three errors, led the team with a .233 hitting percentage.

    Harrington also had a standout night, defensively, accounting for eight assisted blocks. Pettie added five, as the team recorded 18 assisted stops.

    While three players tallied the double-digit kill mark, four others accounted for double-digit dig totals. Freshman libero Victoria Martinez led the field with 22 digs, while senior Kristina Stewart and sophomore Caroline Kurtz added 16 apiece. Fellow sophomore Kelly Spencer collected 11 to round out the quartet. As a team, the Falcons recorded a season-high 81 digs.

    Sophomore Stephanie Stanford made her season debut in the setter's position during the second set. She accounted for 28 helpers, while classmate Jessica Hellmann added 15.

    Air Force returns to action tomorrow (Sept. 6) when they host UC-Davis at 3 p.m., and North Carolina State at 7 p.m.
