Falcons Fall in Four to Southern Miss

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Despite strong performances from sophomore Nichole Stilwell and junior Michelle Harrington, the Air Force volleyball team dropped a 3-1 match to Southern Mississippi on Sunday, Aug. 31, during the Air Force Volleyball Labor Day Tournament. Air Force (1-1) dropped the first set 25-19, before taking the second set with the same totals. USM went on to win the final two sets with matching 25-15 tallies. Stilwell led all players with 13 kills, while Harrington posted a team-leading five blocks. Harrington's mark included four solo stops. Senior Jasamine Pettie nearly hit the double-digit kill total, recording nine. She and Stilwell also accounted for two assisted stops. Sophomore Jessica Hellmann accounted for 36 of the team's 39 helpers, while posting a hitting percentage of .300 (3 kills-0 errors-10 attempts). Freshman Victoria Martinez, who led the team with nine digs, recorded her first collegiate service ace. Senior Kristina Stewart tallied the Falcons' other ace and added seven digs. The Falcons continue action tomorrow (Sept. 1) at the Air Force Volleyball Labor Day Tournament, when they host Buffalo at noon in Clune Arena.
