Air Force Welcomes Three to Class of 2017

Savannah Banyai, Collette Foster and Lauren Ossolinski entered the Academy as the Class of 2017.

SOPHOMORE YEAR | 2014: Saw action in 59 sets...recorded first collegiate kill in season debut against Marist...also accounted for a season-best three digs in that match...matched that dig total in contests against Omaha, UNLV and Nevada...recorded a service ace against Houston Baptist.

FRESHMAN YEAR | 2013: Played in three sets...made collegiate debut at home against Utah Valley...also saw action in two sets at Utah State...accumulated no statistics.

HIGH SCHOOL | CLUB TEAM: Hamilton High School…coached by Sharon Vanis…received the 2013 Husky Award, which is awarded by the coaching staff for character and leadership, both on and off the court…member of the 2010 Hamilton team that finished second at the Arizona 5A State Championships…the runner-up finish happened during the program’s first-ever appearance at the state tournament…that team also earned Hamilton’s first ranking in the Top 100 (#56)…member of the 2011 squad that earned the school’s best finish (third) at the Nike Tournament of Champions…also played on teams that advanced to the state’s final four in 2012 and finished fifth in 2013…three-time Student of the Month award recipient…earned three academic letters for maintaining a GPA above 3.8…three-year member of the National Honor Society…competed at the club level for East Valley Juniors (18s)…coached by Brian Hosfeld and Mindy Williams…finished sixth in the state, despite having just six players remaining in final tournament…“we rotated like a YMCA team, everyone played every position; it was the most fun I’ve ever had playing volleyball in my life”…played four years (14-17) for Aspire Volleyball Club.

PERSONAL: Full name is Savannah Elizabeth Banyai…nickname is “Sav”...daughter of Chris and Peggy Banyai…father played soccer at Hope College and mother played volleyball at Grand Canyon University…has two younger siblings, Ryan and Kayla…majoring in operations research…future plans included becoming an Intel officer or analyst for the Air Force...served as Element Leader during Basic Cadet Training...hobbies including hiking and snowboarding…grandfather was a flight surgeon and served two years as a colonel...competed Operations Air Force at Tyndall AFB, Fla., over the summer...also took an Electrical Engineering course (ECE 315) and worked the second session of BCT…best memory comes from when the Hamilton varsity team defeated Xavier College Prep for the first time in school history...member of Cadet Squadron 02.
