    Position:
    Assistant Coach

    Maj. Scott Nelson is in his second consecutive season as an assistant coach for Falcon volleyball. Nelson returned to the team after five years away from the volleyball team. He was an assistant coach for the squad from 1993-1996.

    Nelson will assist in all aspects of the program and will work extensively with the outside hitters.

    Nelson was a four-year starter at outside hitter and senior captain of the Academy's men's volleyball club team. He also began his coaching career with the women's team as a graduate assistant in 1988.

    Nelson graduated from the Academy in 1988 with a bachelor's degree in geography. Following graduation, he earned a meterology degree through the Air Force Institute of Technology at Texas A&M. While earning his degree, he worked as a graduate assistant with the Aggies' women's volleyball team. He played for the men's team, earning all-SIVC honors. He went on to earn a master's degree in business administration from Chaminade University in 1992.

    Nelson is a three-time assistant coach for the all-Air Force men's and women's teams, which compete against other military programs throughout the world. He helped bring home three gold medals, one silver and one bronze. In 1993, he joined the men's rosters as a player, representing the Air Force at the interservice championship in Camp Lejune, N.C. He returned to the team in 1994 and was a silver medalist in the championship. He also served as an assistant coach for the USA Armed Forces women's team in 1992 and gained international experience as the team captain for the Armed Forces men's team at the first World Military Games in Rome, Italy (September, 1995).

    Besides his coaching duties with the women's team, Nelson also is in his seventh year as head coach of the men's club team. He has had various other assignments while at the Academy. He was the executive officer for the Directorate of Athletics from 1997-1998. Following that, he spent two years as Aide-de-Camp to the superintendent. Currently, Nelson is serving as chief of the Intercollegiate Liaison Division.

    Nelson and is wife Gianna reside in Colorado Springs. They have four daughters: Sydney (11), Taylor (9), Avery (4) and Chandler (2).
