Air Force Welcomes Three to Class of 2017

Savannah Banyai, Collette Foster and Lauren Ossolinski entered the Academy as the Class of 2017.

HIGH SCHOOL | CLUB TEAM: Thomas B. Doherty High School...coached by Julie Ortiz and Tara Hittle...three-year varsity letterwinner...two-time member of the team that placed third at the Colorado 5A state Championships...also a member of the team that won the Metro League (Colorado Springs) title and finished 10th in the state as a senior...also earned three varsity letters in track...four-time member of the Metro League championship team... ran on the 4x400-meter relay team that finished third at the 5A Metro League Championships...also placed fifth in the discus...also earned a fifth-place finish at the USATF Junior Olympics - Colorado Championships...four-year academic all-state (first-team) selection in both volleyball and track...National Honor Society representative...Link-Crew Leader...graduated within the top 10% of class...competed at the club level for Colorado Classix (coached by Scott Nelson) and Colorado Springs Altitude (coached by Chris Sweeny)...served as team captain for four years...member of the club team that finished fifth at the Colorado Crossroads Qualifier Tournament (16s)...also a member of the USA Volleyball 16s that competed at the High Performance Tournament in Wisconsin Dells, Wis., and the USA Volleyball 18s that placed fifth at the Rocky Mountain Region Championships.

PERSONAL: Full name is Lauren Elizabeth Ossolinski...nickname is "LO"...daughter of Bryan and Lori Ossolinski...father is a 1990 Academy graduate and former member of the Air Force football team...has one older sister, Kristen...majoring in either civil engineering or pre-law...future plans include becoming a JAG, pilot or engineer...attended the Academy's Prep School...served as captain of the volleyball team...earned the prep school's Leadership Award...hobbies include journaling, adventuring with friends, hiking, traveling the world, reading and art...likes the Harry Potter series...grandfather, John Kingsbury, served in the Air Force for 22 years..."I've aspired to play at the Academy for years, and to have this dream realized is amazing. On the gym wall, there is a mural of one of the Air Force core values: `Excellence in All We Do.' This is a value that I have embodied in both my academic and volleyball careers, and I am inspired to live by this mantra; you only live once. I am honored to be a Falcon"...greatest personal moment in sports came from competing as a setter at the USA Volleyball High Performance tournament against international teams such as Chile...member of Cadet Squadron 06.
