Air Force volleyball junior Ayesha Hein was named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Division I Volleyball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). One of only three non-seniors named to the 19-member squad, Hein earned second-team distinction.
Several members of the Air Force volleyball team impacted the Academy record book during the 2013 season, as the squad made history with its most conference wins since joining Division I. In all, seven Falcons made 15 incursions to the program's Division I standings, as well as one addition to the Academy's all-time list.
Sophomore Maggie Sherrill was named the Air Force Athlete of the Week on Dec. 2, after helping the volleyball team close out the 2013 season with a pair of Mountain West victories. It is the second such weekly award for Sherrill, who also claimed the department's award at the end of October.
Backed by three players hitting .500 or better, the Air Force volleyball team closed out the 2013 campaign with a sweep of San Jose State on Friday, Nov. 29. With the 25-23, 25-18, 25-19 victory, the Falcons claimed their fifth Mountain West win of the season - matching the program's best conference win total since moving to Division I.
The Air Force volleyball team made a statement during its return to the Academy on Wednesday, Nov. 27, completing a straight-set victory over Fresno State. The Falcons earned their second sweep of the Mountain West season with a 25-23, 25-22, 25-20 win over the Bulldogs, who entered the match ranked fifth in the conference.
