Brooke Parsons set to play in Central Region Tennis Championships

    Air Force senior Brooke Parsons plays her opening round match at the Omni Hotels Central Region Tennis Tournament on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 10 a.m. (MT). Her opponent is Amanda Cervantes of Weber State University.

    The winner of that match will face the No. 5 seed, Petra Sedlmajerova of Kansas State, in the second round.

    Three Air Force players were defeated in the qualifying rounds of the tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 24. Sophomore Laura Nigro won her first-round match, defeating Bethany Griffin of Oklahoma 6-3, 2-6, 6-0, then lost to Cassie Drake of Missouri in the second round, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3. Senior Ashley Gee and sophomore Heather Shelby lost in the first round of qualifying to Kristina Olshanakaya on Missouri (6-3, 6-1) and Sabrina Eveers of Iowa, State (7-5, 6-0), respectively.

    Parsons and Nigro are the ninth seed in the doubles draw. They received a first-round bye. Shelby and sophomore Gina Black are also in the draw of 64, and they play Erin Pauchnik and Katia Vasylyeva of Oklahoma State in the first round.

    The tournament continues through Sunday, Oct. 28 at the Tulsa Southern Tennis Club in Tulsa, Okla.
