Laura Nigro Advances to Second Round at ITA Central Region Tournament
Pairs with Gina Black to win first doubles match as well

Senior Laura Nigro will play in the second round of the ITA Region Championships on Friday

Air Force senior Laura Nigro won her first round match Thursday at the ITA Central Region Women's Tennis Championships, defeating Rebecca Pike, 7-5, 7-6. Nigro and her doubles partner, senior Gina Black also advanced to the second round in doubles with an 8-1 victory over Allison Hansen and Cinthia Saucedo of Utah.

Nigro, from Lincoln, Neb., will play Ilona Somers of Tulsa Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. Sophomore Kat Bushey was not as successful as Nigro on Thursday, losing two matches. She lost to Whitney Eber of Utah, 6-2, 6-1 in the first round of the main draw, then fell to Milena Schulz-Gartner of Nebraska, 6-4, 6-3 in the first round of consolation.

In doubles, Nigro and Black will play the third-seeded team of Jemima Hayward and Erin Polowski of Boise State at 5 p.m., Friday. Bushey and freshman Karissa Walker, the Falcons' other doubles team in the main draw, dropped a close match to Christina Klokinis and Karen Kmiec of Northern Arizona, 9-7.
