Falcon Seniors in Doubles Quarterfinals at SMC Invitational

Air Force seniors Laura Nigro and Gina Black won two doubles matches Saturday and are in the quarterfinals of the St. Mary's College Women's Tennis Invitational in Moraga, Calif. Nigro and Black, the third-seeded doubles team in the tournament, will play Kristen Case and Jessica Shu of California on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 2 p.m.
The Falcons' No. 1 doubles team rolled through their two matches on Saturday, first taking care of Kelly Leathers and Kim Daniel of Santa Clara 8-4, then defeating Kendal Bates and Sirrah Williams of Gonzaga, 8-1, in the round of 16. AFA's No. 2 team of sophomore Kat Bushey and freshman Karissa Walker lost their only match on Saturday, dropping an 8-5 decision to the second-seeded team of Margarita Kaurnakhova and Marta Gronowicz of Sacramento State.
Black is still alive in the singles consolation bracket after winning a pair of matches on Saturday. She defeated Ashley Lehman of UC Davis, 6-3, 6-1 and Kristen Ruso of Santa Clara, 6-4, 6-3. Black will play Audrey Wingo of UC Davis in the consolation quarterfinals on Sunday. Walker split her two matches in the consolation round, winning an exciting three-setter against Gabi Ruiz of San Francisco, 6-4, 2-6, 1-0(5) before falling to USF's Camille Pamart, 6-0, 6-1.
