Falcons complete action at Clemson Invitational

    The Air Force women's tennis team concluded the singles competition of the Clemson Fall Invitational on Sunday morning in Clemson, S.C. The Falcons' Gina Black and Mariko Esannason had the highest finish, each placing fifth in her flight.

    Black defeated Karine Etienne of Georgia State, 6-1, 6-3 to claim fifth-place in flight five, while Esannason beat Leslie Garmon of Troy State in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-0, in the fifth-place match in flight six.

    Freshman Katherine Bushey finished sixth in flight four as she lost to Renata Caceras of Winthrop, 6-0, 6-3 in the fifth-place match. Laura Nigro and Heather Shelby placed seventh in flight one and two, respectively.

    In doubles action last Friday, Nigro and Black paired to place sixth in flight one, and Bushey combined with Kelli O'Bryant for the same finish in flight two.

    The Falcons conclude their 2002 fall schedule with the Omni Hotel Regional Tournament in Tulsa, Okla., Oct. 23-27.
