Falcons Complete Day One of USAFA Invitational


    The Air Force women's tennis team played host to the USAFA Invitational Friday at the Academy's outdoor courts. The three-day tournament opened with doubles play on Friday, as players from seven schools played three rounds of doubles.

    In the top flight, Air Force's top team of senior Kat Bushey and freshman Christine Abayan won two of their three matches, while junior Karissa Walker and Erika Shortridge posted the same record in flight "2", including a decisive 8-1 victory over Jessica Jones and Carla Pallares of MWC rival Colorado State. The final round of doubles is scheduled for Saturday morning at 9 a.m.

    Freshmen Meghan Kiser and Anastasia Kostrubala also performed well in flight "3", defeating the CSU team of Jasmin Singh and Courtney Akel, 9-7.

    Singles play will begin at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Bushey and Wilson will compete in the 16-player Flight "1" draw. Two rounds of singles will be played on Saturday.
