Air Force Duo Places Second At Lobo Invite Tennis Tournament

Air Force senior Brooke Parsons and sophomore Laura Nigro advanced to the finals of the doubles bracket at the New Mexico Lobo Invitational Tennis Tournament Sunday before losing to Liina Suuvarik and Alesia Mikalayvea of Illinois State, 8-6.
Parsons and Nigro won three matches en route to the final match, including two wins over teams from Mountain West Conference foe New Mexico. The pair defeated Courtney Choate and Sandy Lukowski of >UNM, 8-4, in the semifinals. They beat Tiffany Robertson and Regula Comtesse of UNM, 8-4, in the first round, and Michelle Mohr and Kirsten Balk of Northern Arizona, 8-2, in the second round.
The Falcons were not as fortunate in singles play, however, as senior Ashley Gee was the only player to win her first round match, defeating Shelby Lipton of Illinois State, 6-2, 6-1. Gee lost to Lukowski of UNM, 6-0, 6-3, in the second round. Gee then went on to win both of her consolation matches against Tatyana Ugorich of Illinois State (6-4, 6-2) and Maria Ruiz-Fabrega of UNM (6-4, 7-6).
Parsons, who enters the season as the team's No. 1 singles player, also won two consolation matches in three sets, defeating Rachel Hatley of UNM, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4, and Tiffany Robertson of UNM, 3-6, 7-5, 6-0.
The Falcons return to action this Thursday, Oct. 4, as they play their first two home matches of the season against Division II opponents Colorado Christian (9 a.m.) and Abilene Christian (1 p.m.).
