Falcons Open ’05-06 Campaign at Wyoming Invitational


    The Air Force women's tennis team opens the 2005-06 season this Friday, Sept. 23 at the Wyoming Cowgirl Invite in Laramie, Wyo. The Falcons have four of their top six players back from last season, including the top two, senior Kat Bushey and junior Karissa Walker.

    Head coach Kim Gidley enters her eighth season with the Falcons as the program's all-time leader with 98 dual match victories. She has a career record of 98-92 entering the '05-06 season.

    Bushey had 16 overall singles victories last season, including 11 at the No. 1 position. She won the MWC Sportsmanship Award and paired with Walker for an 18-18 overall doubles mark. The pair went 13-12 at the No. 1 spot.

    Also returning for Air Force are two juniors, Liza Vaccaro and Kelly Morgan, and two sophomores, Lauren Wilson and Erika Shortridge. Joining the team this season are freshmen Christine Abayan (Murrieta, CA), Meghan Kiser (Salt Lake City, UT) and Anastasia Kostrubala (Cape Coral, FL).

    Following the tournament at Wyoming, the Falcons will play at the Texas Tech Invitational, Sept. 30-Oct. 2, before hosting the USAFA Invitational, Oct. 7-9.
