The Air Force women's tennis team opens its 2012-13 campaign this weekend at the Gopher Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn. Action begins on Friday, Sept. 14 and will conclude on Sunday, Sept 16. Competition will begin each day at 9 a.m. (ET).
Head coach Kim Gidley enters her 15th season as the program's winningest head coach with 182 victories. She has led the Falcons to 49 wins the last three years, the most in a three-year span since the program moved to Division I in 1996.
The Falcons will send eight players to the tournament, led by seniors Christine Molina, Hannah Dake and Melissa Cecil. Joining Air Force and Minnesota are Eastern Michigan, Gustavus, St. Catherines, Northern Iowa, Iowa and UW-Milwaukee.
The event will be divided into three singles flights and two doubles flights. Singles will consist of 16 players in each flight (Gold – A Flight, Maroon – B Flight, and Gopher – C Flight). Doubles will also highlight 16 teams in each flight (Gold – A Flight, Maroon – B Flight).
For those wishing to attend the tournament, parking on Saturday will be limited due to the Gopher Football game at TCF Bank Stadium. Event parking will only be available at the East River Road Garage at a cost of $10. All lots will be open for Friday and Sunday events.
