Rudico, Cassman and Young Earn Academic All-MWC Honors

Three members of the 2008-09 Air Force women's tennis team, Erlyn Rudico, Sarah Cassman and Shannon Young, have been named to the 2009 Academic All-Mountain West Conference team. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team. This is the third academic all-MWC honor for Rudico, the second for Cassman and the first for Young. Rudico, who will be a senior this upcoming season, played the majority of the '09 season on the doubles side, winning nine dual matches at the No. 1 spot. She has a 3.40 cumulative GPA in biochemistry. Cassman tied for the team lead with 22 overall singles victories in '08-09. The junior-to-be was third on the team with 14 dual match wins and won 13 overall doubles matches. Cassman, who is majoring in environmental engineering, currently has a 3.39 cumulative GPA. Young, meanwhile, went 15-11 overall and 9-5 in dual singles matches as a freshman. She had a winning record at the Nos. 4, 5 and 6 spots. Young recorded an outstanding 3.90 GPA during her first year at the Academy and is majoring in physics. A total of 772 student-athletes, including 71 from the Academy, were named to the spring 2009 Academic All-Mountain West Conference team. Spring sports include baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, softball, men's and women's swimming and diving, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's track and field.
