Kat Bushey Earns MWC Women’s Tennis Sportsmanship Award

Air Force junior Kat Bushey was awarded the Mountain West Conference Women's Tennis Sportsmanship Award at the league's championship banquet in San Diego, Calif. Air Force has won the award all three years it has been given. Laura Nigro won it the first two years.

Bushey, a co-captain from Wilmington, Del., earned the award for her on and off the court contributions as a member of the Falcon tennis squad. On the court, she compiled 16 wins overall in singles competition and 11 at the No. 1 position. She teamed with sophomore Karissa Walker for 17 doubles wins as well. Off the court, Bushey carries a 3.07 grade-point average while majoring in aeronautical engineering and is a two-time selection to the MWC all-academic team.

"I believe that a person's character is revealed when things aren't going well," said Air Force head coach Kim Gidley. "Kat had a tough year in conference play, but she showed what competing was about by showing up week after week and putting it on the line and then walking off with her head high. She represents what 'competing' in a sport is all about."
