Kat Bushey Selected to All-MWC Team
Air Force senior Kat Bushey was selected to the 2005-06 all-Mountain West Conference team, announced today by the league. All-conference teams and individual awards are selected by the league's nine head coaches. Bushey, who defeated Wyoming's Karolina Rowinski at the MWC Championships earlier today, improved to 21-19 overall and 14-12 at the No. 1 position. This is her first all-conference selection for singles.
UNLV sophomore Elena Gantcheva was named MWC Player of the Year after posting a 16-3 mark at No. 1 singles this season, including a perfect 8-0 record in MWC matches. No. 12 in the latest Fila Collegiate Tennis Rankings, Gantcheva is 32-8 this season with 17 victories over ranked opponents and brings a 10-match win streak into the MWC Championship this week in San Diego, Calif. TCU's Anna Sydorska earned Freshman of the Year honors after helping the Horned Frogs to the regular-season MWC title. Ranked 86th in the latest Fila Collegiate Tennis poll, Sydorska posted a 22-7 singles record from the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 positions. Horned Frog head coach Dave Borelli garnered MWC Coach of the Year accolades. Now in his fourth year with TCU, Borelli guided the Horned Frogs to an 18-6 overall record and an 8-0 mark in MWC matches. He has a 67-29 record with TCU and a 369-74 career mark in 18 seasons. TCU had a league-high four singles players on the All-MWC team, followed by BYU, New Mexico and UNLV with two each and Air Force, San Diego State and Utah with one apiece.
