Falcons Drop Final Match Before MWC Championships
The Air Force women's tennis team played its final tune-up prior to the 2005 Mountain West Conference Championships Tuesday, falling to the 8th-ranked NAIA team in the country, Point Loma Nazarene, 6-3. Air Force, now 8-16 and seeded eighth at the MWC Tournament, opens on Thursday, April 28 against the top-seeded BYU Cougars at 2 p.m., in San Diego.
The Falcons jumped out to an early 2-1 by winning two of the three doubles matches. Junior Kat Bushey and sophomore Karissa Walker defeated PLNC's top duo of Anita Sieczka and Ashley Strimple, 8-5, while sophomores Liza Vaccaro and Kelly Morgan pulled out an exciting 9-8 victory at the No. 3 spot over Christine LaLonde and Alyse Tyson.
AFA could not hold the momentum through singles play, however, as the Sea Lions captured five of the six matches. Morgan was the lone winner for the Falcons, taking the No. 4 match over Amanda Miller, 6-4, 6-1. Walker (No. 2) and freshman Lauren Wilson (No. 3) each won the first set of her match, only to lose in three sets.
