Two Road Matches Wrap Up Regular Season For Air Force
April 21, 2011
The Air Force women's tennis team wraps up its 2010-11 regular season this weekend with a pair of matches on the road. The Falcons will face Colorado State on Saturday, April 23 at 1 p.m. in Fort Collins, and play at Wyoming on Sunday, April 24 at 11 a.m. Air Force enters the weekend with a 15-9 overall record and a 1-5 mark in Mountain West Conference play. The Falcons' split a pair of matches at home last weekend, defeating New Mexico, 5-2, before falling to TCU, 7-0. Senior Sarah Cassman entered the Air Force record book last weekend, becoming the first Air Force women's tennis player to win at least 20 overall singles matches in each of her four seasons since the program moved to Division I in 1996. Cassman is 20-18 overall in singles this season. Two other Falcons, freshman Anastasia Hueffner (19 wins) and junior Tahlia Smoke (18) have a chance to join the 20-win club this weekend. Colorado State is 7-11 overall and 0-6 in league play entering its match against Wyoming on Friday, while Wyoming is 11-8 overall and 1-5 in the MWC. Air Force, CSU, Wyoming and New Mexico are all fighting to stay out of the opening round match at next week's MWC Championships in Fort Collins, which pits the No. 8 and 9 seeds. New Mexico has finished its season with a 1-7 conference mark, while an Air Force victory in either match this weekend will keep the Falcons out of the opening round match.
