Falcons Play Final Two Home Matches This Weekend

The Air Force women's tennis team plays its final two home matches of the 2005 season this weekend against Mountain West Conference foes BYU and Utah. The Falcons, 8-11 overall and 0-4 in league play, will open the weekend against 26th-ranked BYU on Saturday, April 9 at 10 a.m., then battle Utah on Sunday, April 10 at 10 a.m.

The Falcons dropped a pair of conference matches last weekend in Laramie, Wyo., losing to Wyoming and Colorado State, each by a 6-1 score. Freshman Lauren Wilson stood out for the Falcons by winning both of her doubles matches with fellow freshman Erika Shortridge at the No. 2 spot and winning the No. 4 singles match against Jessica Jones of Colorado State. Wilson is 14-12 overall in singles and 11-8 in dual matches this season.

Junior Kat Bushey continues to lead the team with 16-14 overall record and 11-8 mark at No. 1 singles. She and sophomore Karissa Walker have the exact same records at the No. 1 doubles spot.

These two matches will be the final ones at home for seniors Katie Tomkie and Miclynn Crail.

BYU (14-3, 3-0) comes to the Academy ranked No. 26 in the country, thanks to two nationally ranked singles players and a top 50 doubles team. Olga Boulytcheva is ranked 104th, while Anastasia Sourkova is No. 116 in the country. Sourkova and Jenny Miccoli form the 45th-ranked doubles team in the nation.

Utah (12-7, 2-1) has won four consecutive matches, including victories over Wyoming and Colorado State. The Utes' No. 1 player, Elizabeth Ferris, is 14-10 overall and 10-7 in dual matches (9-7 at No. 1).

BYU and Utah will face New Mexico at the Academy the day before playing the Falcons.
