Falcons Fall to Wyoming, 6-1
The Air Force women's tennis team dropped its third consecutive conference match Saturday, losing to the University of Wyoming, 6-1, in Laramie, Wyo. With the loss, Air Force fell to 8-10 and 0-3 in the Mountain West Conference, while Wyoming evened its record at 8-8 and 1-3 in league play.
The Falcons raced out to an early lead by capturing two of the three doubles matches. Freshmen Lauren Wilson and Erika Shortridge won the No. 2 match, defeating Corina Lazar and Amy Senko, 8-4, and sophomores Liza Vaccaro and Kelly Morgan wrapped up the doubles point with an 8-6 victory over Wyoming's Andrea House and Gwen Moser at the No. 3 position. Wyoming's No. 1 duo of Patricia Chein and Karolina Rowinski defeated AFA's team of junior Kat Bushey and sophomore Karissa Walker. Despite taking two of the six singles matches to three sets, the Falcons lost all six matches. Chien defeated Bushey, 6-3, 5-7, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot, while the other three-set match was at No. 4, where UW's Kim Romer rallied from a set down to defeat Air Force senior Katie Tomkie, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. Lazar won the No. 2 match, beating Walker 7-6, 6-2, while Rowinski took care of Wilson, 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 3 spot. House blanked Vaccaro, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5 and Senko completed the singles sweep with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over senior Miclynn Crail.
