Falcons Fall to Colorado State, 5-2, in Home Finale
The Air Force women's tennis team lost its 2001 home finale Sunday,
5-2, to Colorado State at the Academy's indoor tennis courts.
The Falcons, 11-11 overall and 1-4 in the Mountain West Conference, got out to an early lead by winning all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Kristel Chuntraruk and Gina Black started things off with a 9-7 victory over Morena Jovisic and Allison Lisle at No. 1 doubles. Brooke Parsons and Laura Nigro follwed suit at the No. 2 position, defeating CSU's Amanda Bartz and Bobbe Vasos, 8-5. Heather Shelby and Kelli O'Bryant completed the sweep for the Falcons, beating Sanja Hansson and Catherine Sullivan, 8-6, at the No. 3 spot. Colorado State, 9-8 overall and 1-3 in the MWC, rebounded to win five of the six singles matches, including a three-set win by Jovisic over Parsons at No. 1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0. Hansson (No. 2), Lisle (No. 4), Vasos (No. 5) and Sullivan (No. 6) all collected straight set victories for the Rams. Nigro posted Air Force's only singles victory, defeating Bartz, 6-2, 6-0, at the No. 3 position. Air Force travels to Denver next weekend for a pair of non-conference matches against Arkansas State on Friday, April 6 at 3:30 p.m., and Florida International on Saturday, April 7 at 1:30 p.m. Both matches will be played at the University of Denver.
