Falcons Defeat Wyoming, 6-1, in Women's Tennis
The Air Force women's tennis team earned its first victory ever
against Wyoming on Saturday, defeating the Cowboys, 6-1, at the Academy's
indoor tennis courts.
The Falcons, who lost to Wyoming 5-4 each of the past two seasons, captured the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Air Force's Brooke Parsons and Laura Nigro defeated Jennifer Hancock and Toni Terhaar, 8-4 at No. 2, while Heather Shelby and Kelli O'Bryant beat Sofi Espinosa and Paulina Del Monte, 8-3 at No. 3. Wyoming's Jenny Bowman and Angela Dosseter squeaked by AFA's Kristel Chuntraruk and Gina Black, 9-8, at the No. 1 position. Parsons put together a tremendous comeback in the No. 1 singles match, rallying from a 6-4, 4-0 deficit to win 10 straight games and defeat Bowman, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. Shelby also went three sets with Espinosa before winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 at No. 4 singles. Chuntraruk, Black and Ashley Gee posted straight set victories for Air Force at No. 2, 5 and 6 singles, respectively. Wyoming's Stacy Kneese defeated Nigro, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles for the Cowboys' only point of the day. Air Force, 11-10 overall and 1-3 in the MWC, hosts Colorado State on Sunday, April 1 at 3:30 p.m. Wyoming, 4-8 overall and 0-1 in the MWC, plays New Mexico on Sundayat Air Force beginning at 10 a.m.
