Utah Edges Air Force in Women's Tennis


    The University of Utah women's tennis team squeaked by Air Force, 4-3, Friday, Mar. 23, in Albuquerque, N.M.

    After earning the doubles point, Utah (4-7, 2-0 MWC) survived matches at Nos. 2 and 5 singles, where Air Force had a total of four match points.

    Utah's Irini Kotoglou grinded out a 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) win at No. 2 over Kristel Chuntraruk. Chuntraruk held three match points at 5-4 in the third set. At No. 5, Heidi Thomas fought off a second-set match point to Air Force's Gina Black and pulled out a 1-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 win.

    Brooke Parsons (No. 1), Laura Nigro (No. 3) and Heather Shelby (No. 4) produced singles wins for Air Force (10-8, 0-1). Parsons and Nigro captured the No. 2 doubles match, defeating Thomas and Frida Kareld, 8-4.
