Air Force Academy

The Air Force women's tennis team split a pair of matches at home Friday, losing to Missouri, 6-1, and defeating Division II UCCS, 7-0. The Falcons move to 8-11 on the season.

Missouri took an early 1-0 lead by winning the Nos. 1 and 2 doubles matches to claim the doubles point. Air Force's No. 3 team of junior Kelly Morgan and sophomore Erika Shortridge defeated Amanda Pratzel and Chrissy Svetlic, 8-6.

In singles play, freshman Meghan Kiser won the No. 6 match for Air Force, beating Stephanie Johns, 6-3, 4-6, (10-6) for the Falcons' lone singles win.

Missouri won in three sets at the top two positions, including a 6-3, 2-6, 6-0 triumph at No. 1 singles by Yelena Olshanskaya over AFA's Kat Bushey. Lubica Nadasska won the No. 2 match for Missouri, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 over sophomore Lauren Wilson. Missouri won the Nos. 3, 4 and 5 matches in straight sets.

In the afternoon match against UCCS, Air Force swept all nine matches, including all six singles contests in straight sets. Bushey (No. 1), Morgan (No. 5) and Kiser (No. 6) each won her match 6-0, 6-0.

Bushey combined with freshman Christine Abayan to defeat Katie McPhail and Natascha Vander Molen, 8-0 at the top doubles spot.

Air Force, 1-1 in Mountain West Conference play, continues league matches next weekend in Fort Worth, Texas. The Falcons will face 59th-ranked New Mexico on Friday, March 24 and 19th-ranked TCU on Saturday, March 25. Both matches will begin at 2 p.m. (CT).
