    Colorado Springs, Colo. -- Air Force junior Gina Black has been named Mountain West Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week.

    Black, a Chesapeake, Va., native, went 4-0 in singles play and 3-1 in doubles last week, helping the Falcons to a 5-0 record. In Air Force's 6-1 win over Montana, she defeated Kate Kohlschreiber in straight sets (6-1, 6-4) in No. 5 singles and teamed with Laura Nigro at No. 1 doubles to beat Michaela Zima and Annabelle Janairo, 8-4. Against North Texas, Black was victorious over Kristin Beedy (7-6, 6-4) at the No. 5 position and, along with Nigro, beat Bettina Retten and Sandhya Kanury, 8-1 at No. 1 doubles. She also defeated Southern Utah's Mandie Walker, 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 3 singles spot and concluded her week with a straight set win over Texas-Pan American's Alana Breen (6-4, 6-2) at the No. 5 spot, and partnering with Nigro for a 8-0 win over Elisabet Mateos and Ana Pena in No. 1 doubles. Black is 12-2 in singles competition and 8-6 in doubles on the year.
