Women's Tennis Team Edges New Mexico State, 4-3


    The Air Force Academy women's tennis team improved to 5-2 this season with a 4-3 victory Thursday, Feb. 15, over New Mexico State at the Cadet Gymnasium Indoor Courts.

    The Falcons gained the doubles point when the No. 1 duo of senior Kristel Chuntraruk and junior Brooke Parsons pulled out a 9-8 victory over NMSU's Elke Blodau and Carol Blechschmidt. Chuntaruk and Parsons won the tiebreak 7-2. Air Force freshmen Laura Nigro and Gina Black combined to win the No. 3 doubles match 8-3.

    The two teams split the six singles matches, and Black clinched the match for Air Force with a 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 victory over the Aggies' Patti Diaz at No. 6 singles. Nigro defeated Claire Hamilton 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 and freshman June Lee defeated Blechschmidt at No. 5 singles 7-5, 6-1.

    Air Force takes to the road this weekend with matches in Daytona, Fla., against Stetson University on Saturday, Feb. 17 and the Bethune-Cookman on Sunday, Feb. 18.
